Chapter Board of Directors

The board is responsible for establishing the mission, policies and strategic direction of the chapter.

The chapter is governed by an 11 member board of directors that consists of at least two homeowner members, two manager members, two business partner members and 5 at large members. All members of the board serve a maximum of 2 three year terms. Elections are held at the annual meeting, which is held each year before December 31. The board is responsible for establishing the mission, policies and strategic direction of the chapter.

If you are considering nominating yourself for a seat on the chapter board of directors, please review the qualifications listed below. Nominations are generally open each year from July through mid-September.

Qualifications of a Chapter Board Member

Service on the chapter board is a serious undertaking which involves a deep commitment to the community association industry and to Community Associations Institute. Service as a chapter board member involves the minimum commitment of:

  • Six years of volunteer service on the chapter board
  • Attendance at 7-9 board meetings per year
  • Regular attendance and participation in chapter events and programs
  • A commitment to assist with the development of a short- and long-term strategic vision for the organization
  • A duty of care to the interests and success of the organization

In addition to the qualifications listed below for each membership type, the ideal candidate for the Chapter Board of Directors will possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Must be a member in good standing of the chapter
  • Agrees not to campaign for election or encourage others to campaign in support of him/her or in opposition to other candidates
  • Has not been officially sanctioned or otherwise censured by CAI relative to a CAI designation
  • Has not been convicted of a crime of the first or second degree or a crime of a fiduciary nature of any degree while serving as a member of an executive board or during the course of his/her employment
  • Is not employed by or otherwise receive remuneration from CAI, a CAI chapter, or an affiliate organization

Homeowner Leader Membership Type

  • Minimum chapter volunteer service of 2 years
  • Must be currently serving on your community association board, with a minimum service on your community association board of at least 2 years.
  • Attendance at the CAI Board Leadership Development Workshop

Manager Membership Type

  • An individual manager member or primary contact on a management company membership qualifies as a manager member of the Board
  • Minimum chapter volunteer service of 5 years
  • Service of two years as a chair of a Chapter Committee
  • Attainment of the PCAM designation
  • Lends support to the chapter or CAI national as an author, speaker, contributor.

Business Partner Membership Type

  • A primary contact on a business partner membership or any employee of a business partner organization membership qualifies as a business partner member of the Board.
  • Minimum chapter volunteer service of 5 years
  • Service of two years as a chair of a Chapter Committee
  • Attainment of the Educated Business Partner credential
  • Lends support to the chapter or CAI national as an author, speaker, contributor or sponsor.
